Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is considered as one of the most pious pilgrimage for the followers of Hindu, Jain and Buddhist religions and at the same time the most difficult spiritual adventure trips of Asia. However, with Kailash Mansarovar overland tours the difficult terrain of Kailash Manasarovar becomes comparatively easy and accessible with the modern road infrastructure and transport system in Tibet. This 14 days long trip filled with spirit of adventure begins from Kathmandu with a rough and scenic drive to Keyrung, crossing Nepalese border at Rasuwagadi. The black top roads of Tibet leading to Lake Mansarovar and Mount Kailash offers scenic view of snowcapped mountains and great Tibetan plains.
Start your trip from Kathmandu today as you arrive at Kathmandu international airport. Upon arrival the representative of Max Holidays will greet you outside the airport and will provide you transfer to your hotel in Kathmandu. Rest of the time is free. Dinner and night stay will be at the hotel.
At around 08.00 am the temple visit will start. We will try to reach Pashupatinath Temple before 09.00am to attend aarti in the main temple. Also visit many small and big temples in the complex. After visiting Pashupatinath Temple visit the ‘Sleeping Vishnu’ Temple (Jal Narayan Temple) and Guheshwari Mata Temple. After visiting temples, drive back to your hotel and spend time in preparing for the next day travel to Nepal-China border. If you want to buy some stuff for your trip you may pay a visit to the popular market of Thamel. Here you may get almost every item related to trekking and adventure activities. In the evening, we will have short briefing program followed by introduction of all group members. Overnight stay and dinner at the hotel.
Mountain Flight (Optional Tour): One can even book ‘Mountain Flight’ as an optional tour in Kathmandu for this morning. This is an hour flight over world’s highest mountain peaks. The flight departure time is at around 06.30 am
After breakfast, board your flight to Nepalgunj. On arrival transfer to a hotel for relaxed time and night stay.
In the morning the guide will organise your transfer from the hotel to Nepalgunj airport from where you will board your flight to Simikot, a tiny village in a Western Himalayan ranges in Nepal.
The trek from Simikot to Dherapuri takes you to a high pass with an height of 3000m and then it goes down and the trail goes greener. After 4-5 hours walk you reach the village of Dharapuri. after some rest go out and explore the village.
Today we have a short walk for about 3 hours from Dharapori to Kermi. In the morning we will have some breakfast and thn go our to explore the village of Dharapori before we leave to Kermi. During the short and easy walk from Dharapori to Kermi we will see fields of barley, buckwheat, rice, and potatoes. On reaching Kermi we relax for some time in the camp and then visit Laikyo Gompa and Lhundrup Choeling Gompa. This tiny village of Kermi has Buddhist population in majority.
Today's trek from Kermi to Yalbang may take 5-6 hours. After first 2 hours walk we cross the Sali River and make a stop at a tea shop near the bank of the river. The trail from here goes up as we walk along the Karnali River. We may see a lot many Mule caravans during our trek to Yalbang. We comple our walk and reach the village of Yalbang.
Today's trek to Muchu from Yalbang is a beautiful walk along the Karnali River. Our first hault is Yangar village. The trek is almost flat. The path starts getting rockeir and you find yourself surrounded with Pine trees. The trail brings us to Muchu where we have our campsite. If we feel like walking more, after visiting the Muchu village we will continue walk for an hour to Tumkot. The main attraction of the beautiful Muchu village is Dhungkar Choezom Monastery which we will visit in either cases.
The 5-6 hours trek today from Tumkot to Yari starts with some steep hike. From here we leave the green mountains behind and we find ourself in the landscapes which are more rocky and desolate. After reaching Yari we relax in the camp.
In your Humla Valley trekking tour from Simikot besides the trekking of Mount Kailash this day is going to be more demanding in terms of physical strength as we cross the Nara La Pass. The landscapes here are very similar to those in Tibet. From the village Tado Dhunga the trail is even steeper. From Nara La Pass we will have a panoramic view of Tibetan plateau. As we cross Nara La Pass the trek becomes hard and steep descent to Hilsa.
After breakfast walk to the Nepal-Tibet border. The Chinese officer cum guide will receive us on the other side of the border and after completing the immigration formalities we will drive to our hotel in Taklakot, Burang. Here after many days camp stay, we will have the opportunity to stay in a hotel which may also have attached bathroom. Free day at Taklakot and time to explore the local bazaars.
After breakfast drive to Lake Mansarovar. One of the most popular and beautiful lakes Mansarovar does not need an introduction. Before reaching Mansarovar make a stop at Rakshas Taal (Lake of Demons). Pay a visit to Lake Mansarovar and enjoy holy bath in the fresh water of the lake. Here you will find people of Hindu, Jain, Buddhist, Bon and many other religions doing prayers and paying homage to their elderly family members or friends. Stay in a guesthouse for the night near the lake. If interest, one may again visit the lake under the glazing stars to experience its beauty in the night.
The whole day is free to explore the surrounding. A round of the holy Lake Mansarovar by vehicle will be organised by the guide which take about 3-4 hours. Chiu Gompa and some monasteries nearby will add more interest to your stay here today.
Today after breakfast drive tom Lake Mansarovar to Darchen. Darchen is a town and military settlement near the Mount Kailash. Darchen offers some comfortable stays and one can spend time here moving around while exploring the Tibetan culture.
After breakfast drive from Darchen to Yam Dwar, the start point of our trek / kora of Mount Kailash. From Yam Dwar we start our trek from the South Face of Kailash to reach the North Face of Mount Kailash. The 12kms trek along the Karnali River is almost flat with some humps on the ground. The higher altitude of this area and lack of oxygen make it a little more challenging comparitively. After 4-5 hours we reach Derapukh Gompa where we make our hault for the day. From here we will have very clear and close view of Mount Kailash.
Today we will stay at Derapukh as we have the most rewarding trek to Charan Sparsh today. Mount Kailash is considered to be Lord Shiva himself in Hindu religion. We start our walk towards the Lord today and after trekking for 3-4 kms we reach very close to the mount. We touch the feet of the Lord here and after taking His blessings we make our way back to the guesthouse near Derapukh Gompa.
We start our trek to Zuthulpukh Gompa early today as the trek is little longer and more demanding for the trekkers. The trek today is for about 22 kms and first 6-7 kms path is rocky with steep ascend and decend. We reach the highest point of Dolma La (5630m). Here we see the beautiful lake of Gauri Kund which is one of the highest fresh water lakes in the world. From here the track becomes comfortable as it gows down gradually. Night stay at Zuthulpukh Gompa in a guesthouse.
Trek down to Darchen and we drive to Saga. Saga is a fairly big settlement on Western Tibet. It has good number of people living, fairly good accommodation and market outside the hotel to be explored by the travellers.
We continue our drive to Tibet - Nepal border after breakfast and make our hault at Kyirong.
In the morning the guide will organise your transfer from Kyirong to Tibetan border. After immigration formalities walk in to Nepal and straight drive to Kathmandu. The drive may take longer than expected due to bad road condition at most of the places inside Nepal. The bumpy ride today can be tiring also. reach Kathmandu and stay in the hotel.
Intime the guide will make arrangements for your transfer from hotel to Kathmandu airport. Your Mount Kailash and Humla Valley Trekking tour comes to an end as you depart to your home with sweet memories of the visits.
